Neurotech places considerable importance on its ability to obtain and maintain proprietary protection for its technology and product candidates. Currently Neurotech holds over 80 issued US patents and 200 allowed international equivalents covering its product and technology assets. The Company also relies on significant technical and institutional know-how, continuing technological innovation and in-licensing opportunities to develop and maintain its proprietary position.

Of significance, in 2002 Neurotech obtained an exclusive license from Amgen to develop and market ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) across all indications in ophthalmology. In addition, the Company in-licensed exclusive rights to the therapeutic use of human retinal cell lines and specific factors from the University of California and exclusive rights to intellectual property associated with Encapsulated Cell Technology from Brown University.
